Objective: 

to introduce the students with the basics and origin of theater.
to familiarize the students with the sub parts of stage craft like light, sound, costume, makeup.
to discuss the integrity of voice and speech
basics of selection of play, planning of performance, rehearsals.

Unit I: 
Introduction to Theatre: Concept, Importance, its relevance in today’s society.
Unit II: 
Types of Acting – Realistic and Non Realistic.
Unit III: 
Stage Craft – Set, props, light, costume, make-up, sound and music.
Unit IV: 
Voice and Speech – Punctuation, Diction difference between ordinary and dramatic speech, characterization through speech, pitch variation, volume, modulation meter and rhythm.
Unit V: 
Stage Management – Selection of Play, pre planning of performance, rehearsals and rehearsal schedule.
