ORIGIN OF DANCE AND TYPES OF INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCES

• Study about theories on dance and arts as given in Natyashastra
• Indian treatise on Arts and classical dance styles as Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam, Orissi, Chhau and Sattriya.

TERMINOLOGY IN KATHAK DANCE AND HAND GESTURES
  • Define terms as Vibhaag, Taal, Matra, Laya, Sam, Taali, Khaali, Theka, Thah(Barabar/ekgun), Dugun, Chaugun, Avartan, Palta, Padhant, Gat, Tukda, Salami, Aamad, Baant, Tatkaar, That, Tihai, Namaskar Ka Toda.

 

  • Application of Hand gestures as Pataka, Tripataka, Ardhapataka, Kartarimukh, Mayur, Ardhachandra, Arala, Shuktunda, Mushthi, Shikhar, Kapittha, Katakamukh, Soochi, Chandrakala, Padmakosh.

GHARANA OF KATHAK AND GHUNGROOS

• Gharans of Kathak, contribution of prominent artists of different Gharans and their
different schools of thoughts.

• Detailed study on ankle bells(ghungroos) used in kathak
