Intercollegiate Competition at JK Laxmipath University

On Sunday Oct 28th 2018 , the students of COSD THEATRE STUDIES of THE IIS UNIVERSITY went for an inter college competition “SABRANG” organized by THE JK LAKSHMIPAT UNIVERSITY , JAIPUR to perform a play named “SADGATI” written by Munsi Premchand ji about discrimination toward Dalits in our Indian Society. Many other colleges of Jaipur also took part in the competition. Every team in the competition were supposed to perform their act in a time lap of 20 minutes. Around 30 students were there in the play including the backstage people and the sound manager. The story of the play was that as a poor Dalit named Dukhiya went to Pandit of the village for asking some perfect dates for his daughter’s engagement and the cruel pandit instead of listening towards his request talked very rudely with him and made him work so much that Dukhiya finally dies and in the end the cruel pandit himself had to drag the dead body of the poor dalit Dukhiya out of the village which is the irony of the play. It was an all together a very amazing experience for the students to perform in college level competition and represent their college. There was an equal participation of every individual student in the play. Students performed the play with props including very basic things like a sack to bring the essence of originality to the play. In the end of the play students sung a song “RAAT GHANI HA LAMBI BADI HA” to make the play more conveying. Every student worked really hard to make this play a success and made the audience realize the social message which they want to convey through the play of not having a cruel or discriminative attitude towards any minority group of our society. In the end the hard work and true dedication of the students made them winners of the competition in around 9-10 teams.
